History
The Badeni Manor House stands at 63 Glinik Street, in Kraków's Wadów. It was built in 1874 for Józef Badeni, the owner of Wadów, to a design by Antoni Łuszczkiewicz.
The brick manor house is Neoclassical but has Neo-Renaissance features. It is asymmetrical, made up of two rectangles set at right angles, and covered by a gently pitched hipped roof. The low, elongated main block is enlivened by a two-storey projection on the north side and an arcaded portico. Its entablature bears the inscription "Z DARÓW BOŻYCH" ("From God's Gifts") and the family coats of arms of Wężyk and Bończa carved in relief. On the south side the decoration of friezes under the roof has survived, as has a statue of Our Lady in a niche with a stone vase below it. A landscape park was laid out around the manor house.
The Badeni family owned the manor house until 1930. The building then passed into private hands, and after the war children were taught here - first in a school, and from the 1970s in a nursery. In the 1990s the manor house was taken over by the Municipality of Kraków. The nursery closed in 2003, the building fell out of use and its condition deteriorated badly. In the early hours of 2 November 2008 a fire broke out in the attic, destroying part of the wooden loft, ceiling and roof.
In 2019 consultations on the renovation of the manor house began, in 2021 preliminary work started, and the renovation proper got under way in 2024. The park by the building is now used for recreation and sport.
