History
Kino Mikro has been operating at 5 Lea Street since 1959. As early as the 1950s, when the street was still named after Dzierżyński, there was a police cinema here, where the young Roman Polański watched films. Since 7 April 1984 it has operated as the "Mikro&Mikroffala" Film Art Club.
The club regularly hosted competitions, film reviews, festivals and other cultural events. Guests who came with their films included Roman Polański, Andrzej Wajda, Malcolm McDowell and Kazimierz Kutz. For many years the club was run by Krzysztof Gierat, assisted by Janusz Makuch, and its programme board included Alicja Helman and Zbigniew Preisner, among others. Since 1992 the cinema has been run by Iwona Nowak.
From February 2009 to early 2011 the DKF Mikro-Odeon film discussion club operated here, and it received an award from the Polish Film Institute. In 2010 a digital projector capable of 3D screenings was installed, and in 2013 a branch of the cinema opened in the Galeria Bronowice shopping centre. The cinema takes part in festivals: the Krakow Film Festival, Off Camera and the Copernicus Festival, and since September 2019 it has run the series "Time for Seniors", in which screenings are preceded by talks from film scholars.
