Kościół pw. Chrystusa Odkupiciela Człowieka - Redemptor Hominis

Churches of Kraków

Church (Roman Catholic), Prądnik Biały district.

History

The Church of Christ the Redeemer of Man stands in Prądnik Biały at Stelmachów Street 137. It was built because a large new housing estate had grown up on the edge of Kraków, and the nearest Catholic churches were far away. The parish, which belongs to the Kraków-Krowodrza deanery of the Archdiocese of Kraków, has a decree of erection dated 1 January 2004, signed by Cardinal Franciszek Macharski. Construction of the church began in 2006, and in 2007 the same cardinal blessed the building in its unfinished state. Finishing work on the interior, including the walls and floor, continued after the ceremony.

Did you know?

The Latin Redemptor hominis, meaning "Redeemer of Man", is also the title of John Paul II's first encyclical, published on 4 March 1979. In it the pope used the singular, "man" rather than "mankind", to focus on the individual dimension of redemption.
