Kościół pw. Matki Bożej Nieustającej Pomocy (ul. Księcia Józefa)
Churches of Kraków
Church (Roman Catholic), Zwierzyniec district.
History
The Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help stands in Bielany, in the Zwierzyniec district, at Księcia Józefa Street 176. The idea of a new church arose in the early 1980s. The estate had more and more residents, while the Camaldolese church was not easily accessible because of the monks' strict rule, and the nearest church open to everyone was as far away as Przegorzały.
The parish was established in 1986, and construction began the same year, lasting until 1988. The postmodernist design was by the architect Stanisław Wasilewski. As he conceived it, the shape of the façade is meant to resemble hands joined in prayer. The church was consecrated in 1994 by Cardinal Franciszek Macharski. Today the parish belongs to the Kraków-Salwator deanery of the Archdiocese of Kraków, and its area includes Bielańska, Kaszubska and Skalna Streets, among others.
