Churches of Kraków

Church (Roman Catholic), Podgórze Duchackie district.

History

The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary stands on the Piaski Nowe estate, at Nowosądecka Street 41, in the Podgórze Duchackie district. The community's beginnings go back to 1988, when there was a chapel on the estate belonging to the Piaski Wielkie parish. The priest in charge, Fr Andrzej Burek, furnished it and oversaw the construction of the parish house. The parish was established on 29 June 1992 by Cardinal Franciszek Macharski.

Construction of the church began in August 1992 with digging the foundations. The foundation stone was blessed and laid by Cardinal Macharski on 3 October 1993, during the parish feast celebrations. In July 1994 the walls were finished and work began on the ceiling and roof, and in 1996 the interior was plastered and fitted with electrical wiring, windows and doors. The new church was blessed on 5 October 1997 by Cardinal Macharski during the solemn parish feast, and the official consecration took place on 23 November 2003, on the feast of Christ the King.

The parish covers the Piaski Nowe estate, several blocks of the Na Kozłówce estate and part of the Wola Duchacka Wschód estate. It belongs to the Kraków-Prokocim deanery.
