History

The church on Saska Street in Płaszów is a small Modernist building with a single nave and a floor area of about 200 square metres. It was designed by Franciszek Mączyński and built in 1930-1931 of reinforced concrete with brick walls. The high altar was made by Jan Budziło.

The story of the building began in September 1928, when the Sacred Heart Fathers (the Dehonians) settled in Płaszów. They built a religious house, and soon afterwards work on the church began. It was blessed on 4 October 1931 by the mitred prelate Father Kulinowski, standing in for Cardinal Adam Sapieha. Two side altars were funded in the church: one for Our Lady of Płaszów and the other for St Joseph. The image of Our Lady was solemnly brought into the church on 21 November 1931.

At first it was a rectoral church of the Podgórze parish, where priests, pupils of the minor seminary and residents of Płaszów came together to pray. It became a parish church on 1 January 1939, when a separate parish was established in Płaszów. From the start it has been cared for by the Dehonians, a congregation founded in France in 1878.
