Kościół pw. Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa (Wzgórza Krzesławickie)

Churches of Kraków

Church (Roman Catholic), Wzgórza Krzesławickie district.

History

The church in Lubocza, in the Wzgórza Krzesławickie district, has its roots in the work of the Norbertine Sisters of Zwierzyniec, the village's former owners. In 1928 they founded a nursery for children here, and in 1931 a chapel was opened with the right to reserve the Blessed Sacrament. Twice a week a priest came from Pleszów to say Mass there.

In 1975-76 the nursery school was moved to the new school building. The vacated rooms were turned into part of the chapel, which made it larger. Later the main entrance and steps on the Lubocka Street side were added. On 12 November 1985 Cardinal Franciszek Macharski established the parish of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Lubocza, and the sisters' chapel became the parish church. The parish later bought the buildings from the nuns. Archbishop Stanisław Dziwisz blessed the church on 16 December 2005. The parish belongs to the Kraków-Bieńczyce deanery of the Archdiocese of Kraków, and its area includes Lubocka, Niewielka and Studzienna Streets, among others.
