Kościół pw. Najświętszej Rodziny
Churches of Kraków
Church (Roman Catholic), Bieżanów-Prokocim district.
History
The Church of the Holy Family stands at 1 Aleksandry Street, in the Bieżanów Nowy estate in the Bieżanów-Prokocim district. It was built in 1983-1992. The brick, postmodernist building is shaped like a rotunda, and its dome is topped with a large cross. The church was designed by Janusz Gawor, and the interior by Wincenty Kućma.
The construction work was finished at the beginning of the 1990s, but the finishing touches continued until 2008. In 1994 Cardinal Franciszek Macharski gave the church the title of Shrine of the Holy Family. The last element was the limewood altar, built from 2004 to Professor Kućma's design. Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz consecrated the shrine during Mass on 28 December 2008, the Sunday of the Holy Family.
The parish community belongs to the Kraków-Prokocim deanery of the Archdiocese of Kraków. Every year it organises a family festival for the residents of the estate, Familiada ToR, short for "Troska o Rodzinę" (Care for the Family).

A stone from the house of St Joseph in Nazareth has been placed in the shrine's altar. A devotional path leads around the altar, along which you can leave written requests and thanks addressed to the Holy Family.
