Churches of Kraków

Church (Roman Catholic), Swoszowice district.

History

The Parish of Divine Providence in Swoszowice was created in 1982, when Cardinal Franciszek Macharski separated it from the parish in Wróblowice. For years its church was the chapel on Piłkarska Street, built in 1979-1981 next to the house of the Sisters of Divine Providence and consecrated in 1982.

Efforts to build a larger church began in 2000. Within two years the parishioners bought three small plots on Kąpielowa Street, 56.1 ares in total, on the edge of the spa park. The church was designed in 2002 by Jacek and Marta Bruzda of the "Linia" studio. The new church, like the old chapel, is dedicated to Divine Providence. The building site was blessed on 20 June 2003 by Cardinal Macharski. First the parish house was built, completed in 2005, and then the church itself was raised in stages, funded by donations from parishioners and people of goodwill from all over Poland.

The Christmas midnight Mass in 2013 was already celebrated within the new walls, and on 24 October 2015 Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz laid the foundation stone. The interior was finished in the following years. The background of the altar wall was designed by Professor Józef Murzyn of the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts, a parishioner, and the first stained glass window on this wall was made in Anna Zarzycka's Stained Glass Studio. At Christmas 2017 all Masses were already being celebrated in the new church.
