Kościół pw. Podwyższenia Krzyża Świętego (ul. Mieczysława Wrony)

Churches of Kraków

Church (Roman Catholic), Dębniki district.

History

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross stands in Sidzina, on the southern edge of Kraków, on Mieczysława Wrony Street. Sidzina is a former village first mentioned in 1198. It became part of Kraków on 1 January 1973. Before that it belonged to the parish in Skawina, and there was only a small chapel here, too small for the fast-growing area. So after joining the city, people began to think about having their own church.

The building site was blessed and the foundation stone laid on 20 September 1984 by Cardinal Franciszek Macharski. Construction began straight away, and on 10 August 1986 the cardinal consecrated the church in its unfinished shell state. The church is served by diocesan priests.

Did you know?

In the Middle Ages Sidzina was well known for its salt spring, which the nobleman Michora gave to the monastery in Miechów. In time the spring dried up.
