Kościół pw. Świętego Kazimierza
Churches of Kraków
Church (Roman Catholic), Dębniki district.
History
The Church of St Casimir the Prince stands in the eastern part of Tyniec, on Podgórki Tynieckie Street, on the edge of the Bielany-Tyniec Landscape Park. It is a small neighbourhood with about three hundred residents, and next to the church there is a cemetery and a care home run by the Servant Sisters.
The church was built in 1986-1990 to a design by the architect Zbigniew Radziewanowski, in a postmodern style. It is a filial church of the Tyniec parish, and services are led by Benedictine monks from the nearby abbey. It is the oldest existing monastery in Poland, most probably founded by Casimir I the Restorer in 1044. The interior is modest, and its furnishings are mainly made of wood.

A distinctive feature of the church is the figure of the crucified Jesus shown without a cross.
