Churches of Kraków

Church (Roman Catholic), Grzegórzki district.

History

The Church of St Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, stands in the Grzegórzki district, in Dąbie, by the Vistula, where an Austrian earthwork once stood. The parish on the Dąbie estate was established in 1983. On 18 November of that same year Cardinal Franciszek Macharski blessed the site for the church, and on 27 September 1985 he laid the founding act and the foundation stone, which came from the Tomb of St Peter.

The postmodern design was by the architect Henryk Kamiński, a resident of Dąbie. The main construction work was completed in 1994. Until then services were held in the lower part of the building and at a wooden field altar. The parish church's address is Półkole 9a. The parish belongs to the Kraków-Kazimierz deanery and publishes the monthly parish magazine "Dąbianin". Its boundaries include Zwycięstwa, Na Szaniec and Dąbska Streets, among others.

Did you know?

The building was designed to resemble a bishop's mitre, the headdress of a bishop - the church's patron.
