Kościół pw. Świętego Wojciecha

Churches of Kraków

Church (Roman Catholic), Bronowice district. Architect: Wacław Seruga.

History

St Adalbert's Church (św. Wojciech), at Świętego Wojciecha Street 4 on the Bronowice Nowe estate, is a very young building, put up in 1993-2000. The parish of this dedication was created by a decree of Cardinal Franciszek Macharski on 27 November 1988, which at once required it to build its own church. The parish belongs to the Kraków-Bronowice deanery of the Archdiocese of Kraków. Thanks to the generosity of parishioners, land was bought at the junction of Wesele Street and Zarzecze Street, and construction began in April 1993.

In October 1994 Cardinal Macharski laid the foundation stone, which had been blessed by John Paul II during a parish pilgrimage to Rome. The work coincided with the thousandth anniversary of the death of St Adalbert, the parish's patron. The church was designed by Wacław Seruga and Małgorzata Buratyńska-Seruga. The church was solemnly blessed during a Mass celebrated by Cardinal Macharski on 16 November 1997, and it was consecrated on 1 June 2000.
