Churches of Kraków
Parish church (Roman Catholic), Dębniki district. Date according to Wikidata: 1997. Architect: Witold Cęckiewicz. A parish is a community of believers tied to a particular church.
History
The church on Rostworowskiego Street in Ruczaj was designed by Prof. Witold Cęckiewicz, who also designed the group of buildings around it. The community's story began in 1986, when Cardinal Franciszek Macharski entrusted Fr Kazimierz Wyrwa with setting up a pastoral centre on the estate then being built. The first Midnight Mass was celebrated on Christmas Eve 1987 in a wooden shelter that served as a chapel at the time. The parish was established at Christmas 1989, and from 1988 the faithful used a temporary chapel.
Building the church took a long time. The congregation ceremonially entered the new church on 10 November 2001. A few years later a tower was added with four bells: Jesus Christ - Redeemer of Man, the Blessed Virgin Mary - Queen of Poland, St Joseph and St Casimir. The tower and bells were blessed on 13 November 2004, and Cardinal Macharski consecrated the whole church on 22 October 2011. For many years services were accompanied by an electronic instrument; the pipe organ only arrived in 2020 and was blessed in April 2021 by Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski.
