Kościół pw. Zmartwychwstania Pańskiego (Podgórze Duchackie)

Churches of Kraków

Parish church (Roman Catholic), Podgórze Duchackie district. A parish is a community of believers tied to a particular church.

History

The church on Szkolna Street stands in Wola Duchacka and is run by the Resurrectionist Fathers. In 1938, at the request of the Archbishop of Kraków, Adam Stefan Sapieha, they began their pastoral ministry in Wola Duchacka. In June 1939 the archbishop blessed a temporary church. The parish was created in 1948, carved out of the parish of St Joseph in Kraków's Podgórze, and the Resurrectionists had already been working here since 1938. Today it belongs to the Kraków-Podgórze deanery of the Archdiocese of Kraków. In 1938 the Resurrectionist order also built a chapel in the village, and Wola Duchacka itself, formerly a village, was incorporated into Kraków in 1943.

The present church was built from 1975 and blessed in 1989. It was designed by the architect Antoni Mazur in a postmodern style. The parish groups include the Light-Life movement, altar servers and readers, the Living Rosary and a university chaplaincy.

The name of the district has medieval roots. Wola Duchacka got its epithet when it became the property of the Order of the Holy Spirit in Saxia, known as the Duchacy.
