History

The church at Łobzowska Street 10 belongs to the Resurrectionists of Kraków. In 1884 Father Leon Zbyszewski came to Kraków on the instructions of Father Piotr Semenenko to found a house of the congregation here, and he bought land on Łobzowska Street. The church was built on the site of Ludwik Lipiński's tannery, near the former, demolished Church of St Peter the Less. The house and church were built thanks to the generosity of benefactors, among them Julia Pusłowska, Wacław Mańkowski and Karolina Lubomirska.

The design was drawn up by Wandalin Beringer. It is a Neo-Romanesque single-nave building with a simple, narrow façade decorated with an arcaded frieze and a portal. In 1887 the superior general of the congregation, Father Walerian Przewłocki, blessed the church, which drew many worshippers from the world of learning and the arts. In 1910 stained-glass windows made in S.G. Żeleński's Kraków workshop appeared in the windows, and in 1961 the painter Władysław Bartoszewicz decorated the chancel wall with two biblical scenes in fresco. The porch holds the remains of Father Paweł Smolikowski, Servant of God, who was superior general of the congregation from 1895 to 1905; his remains were laid there in 1967.
