Kaplica pw. Matki Boskiej Częstochowskiej
Wayside Shrines
Chapel, Nowa Huta district. A chapel is a small place of worship, often beside a cemetery, hospital or a larger church.
History
The chapel began with a picture of Our Lady that pilgrims from Mogiła bought in Częstochowa on 5 May 1928. It was placed in a box-shaped shrine, blessed on 1 July 1928 in the Bernardine church, and then carried in solemn procession along the Vistula embankments to the Mogiła Wood and hung on an oak tree. In 1947 Tadeusz Lamot initiated the building of the first chapel, which was put up by Jan Figlarz, a carpenter from Łęg. It was meant as a thank-you for the war having spared Mogiła and Kraków. In 1983, because its roof and structure had deteriorated, it was taken down, and three years later the residents of Mogiła and Łęg built a new, larger one through voluntary community work.

The chapel has a bell bearing the name of John Paul II, cast in Przemyśl at Janusz Felczyński's foundry. It rang for the first time for the Angelus on 22 October 2000, the anniversary of the inauguration of the Pope's pontificate.
