Kapliczka Świętego Cyryla i Metodego
Wayside Shrines
Wayside shrine, Bronowice district. Wayside shrines were often raised out of gratitude, to commemorate events, or to ask for a safe journey.
History
The wayside shrine with figures of Saints Cyril and Methodius stands in Mydlniki, at the junction of Balicka and Hemara Streets, next to the bus terminus. It was built in 2014, when the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was celebrating a hundred years of pastoral ministry in Mydlniki. The idea came from Canon Jan Rajda, a former parish priest, and Leopold Krzanowicz, chairman of the parish branch of Catholic Action.
The location is not accidental. The first Mass in Mydlniki was celebrated here on 15 August 1914, in a chapel set up in the building of a former inn. Masses were held in the "Old Inn" until 1951, when a separate parish was created.
Did you know?
On the feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the faithful walked with their rosaries to the shrine after the evening Mass. The parish has announced that it will keep up this custom where possible.
