Kolumna z krzyżem - rok 1776

Wayside Shrines

Roadside cross, Bronowice district. Inscription: "FUNDATOR TEY FIGURY SZYMON SŁABY I ŻONA JEGO ZOFIA WIECZORKÓWNA WYSTAWIONA W RP 1776". Wayside shrines were often raised out of gratitude, to commemorate events, or to ask for a safe journey.

History

The stone column on Zarzecze Street in the Bronowice Małe estate was funded in 1776 by the miller Szymon Słaby and his wife Zofia. A photograph from 2015 shows that the cross on top of the column was broken off at the time.

The former village of Bronowice Małe included the settlement of Zarzecze, with a bridge over the Młynówka Królewska stream, a mill and a market square. The layout of the northern part of the former village has been entered in Kraków's municipal register of historic monuments.

Did you know?

Bronowice Małe has its place in literature: on 20 November 1900, in Włodzimierz Tetmajer's manor house here, later known as the Rydlówka, the poet Lucjan Rydel held his wedding, which became the basis for Stanisław Wyspiański's play "The Wedding".
