History
The park at Karmelicka Street 24b in Kraków was created on the site of an unofficial car park and a run-down patch of land that local residents had campaigned for years to transform. It was delivered through the Participatory Budget, and residents took part in every stage, from the layout plan to the construction. It is surrounded by tenement houses and the former Franz Joseph barracks, and next to it stands the Calced Carmelite monastery "Na Piasku". It was conceived as a "secret garden", a sequence of spaces that flow into one another. Along the main path a stream runs down into retention ponds, which also collect water from the roof of the Voivodeship Public Library. The shape of the ponds recalls the old fishponds and canals of the Piasek district.
