History

Stefan Żeromski Park lies in the Nowa Huta district, on the Na Skarpie estate, next to the Nowa Huta Meadows. This used to be farmland belonging to the village of Mogiła. In 1940-1943 there was a forced labour camp here for Jewish women, who made aircraft parts, as well as Baulager 15/XIV, where Soviet prisoners of war were held. During the construction of the first Nowa Huta estates the area served as a building site base. Work to prepare it as a park began in 1976, and in 2001 it was landscaped anew. A major renovation was completed in 2018, when a pergola and a treehouse overlooking the Nowa Huta Meadows were also added.

Did you know?

The playground is inspired by the nature of the neighbouring Nowa Huta Meadows. Children climb ropes woven like the web of a wasp spider, peek into wicker nests with the eggs of the little bittern, the corncrake and the grasshopper warbler, and can sit on the back of a grass snake.
