History
Cherry Orchard Park in Nowa Huta, between the Kolorowe and Spółdzielcze estates, was laid out in the early 1960s, when the sector D estates were being built. It covers 2.73 ha. The origin of the name is unknown; one theory links it to former orchards, another to Anton Chekhov's play "The Cherry Orchard".
The park was designed around a promenade running from east to west. In the western part there were playgrounds and an outdoor summer pool, which operated until the second half of the 1970s, after which a garden was laid out in the basin. The eastern part is for strolling, with lawns, flowerbeds and sculptures. The park was thoroughly renovated in 2014-2017.

The Little Mermaid sculpture from 1963, the work of Magdalena Pruszyńska-Jaroszyńska, is a reminder that the park was funded by the Social Fund for the Reconstruction of the Country and the Capital. The same artist created "Seaweed Flirting with a Shell", known as the Snail, which is covered in a mosaic of colourful tiles and has been especially popular with children from the start.
