History

The park was founded in 1889 on the initiative of Dr Henryk Jordan, on the Czarna Wieś common, where an agricultural and industrial exhibition had been held two years earlier. Its layout was entrusted to the head of the city gardens, Bolesław Malecki. Sports pitches, gymnastic equipment and playgrounds for children and young people were created, and Jordan himself drew up the timetable of activities and gave talks on Polish history. The city council named the park after him. By 1914, 46 busts of eminent Poles had been put up here, and similar gardens, known as Jordan gardens, began to be founded in other towns. Today the park covers about 21 hectares and has sports pitches, playgrounds and a small pond.
