History

Solvay Park in Borek Fałęcki was laid out at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s thanks to the efforts and funds of the Solvay Soda Works. It was meant to shield residents from chemical fumes and fill the site of a former pine forest, and at the same time a 20-hectare young pine plantation mixed with broadleaved trees was planted as a dust buffer. After the Second World War the city took over care of the site, and since 1990 the park has been owned by the Municipality of Kraków. For years it remained nameless; its present name was given by a City Council resolution of 3 June 1998. It is customarily divided into three parts: Sosny (the Pines), Podmokła (the Wetland) and Leśna (the Woodland). In 2007 the park was enlarged, and a Jordan playground was opened on Żywiecka Boczna Street.
