History
Wyspiański Park, known as the Old Park, lies in the Prądnik Biały district between Makowskiego, Łokietka and Chełmońskiego streets. It was created on the site of Austrian fort no. 9 Krowodrza, part of the Kraków Fortress, built in 1860-1864. In 1956-1958 the fort was dismantled and what remained was covered with earth, which is why the park is shaped like a crater. Three entrances lead into it, and inside there are paths accessible to people with disabilities, benches and a playground. Family allotment gardens stretch across the fort's former ramparts.
Did you know?
It is Kraków's only "hidden" park, tucked away inside allotment gardens. The boulders and stones in the playground are remnants of the old fort.
