History
The park was founded by Stanisław Rehman, a businessman and restaurateur, on the model of Vienna's people's gardens. In 1885 he leased about 7 ha in the fortification belt from the army, and the park opened in 1887. It had a restaurant, a café, music pavilions, a bowling alley, a swimming pool and an ice rink. In 1893 the Summer Theatre opened, and on its stage, on 23 July 1898, Konstanty Krumłowski's vaudeville "Królowa przedmieścia" (Queen of the Suburbs) was performed for the first time. In 1906 the city bought the park from the army, and in 1976 it was entered in the register of monuments. After renovation the park reopened on 2 June 2018 and was named after Marek Grechuta.
