Zakrzówek Park
Explorer of Kraków's Parks · no. 35
Park type: water. In this park you can collect a stamp in the "Explorer of Kraków's Parks" campaign run by Kraków's Municipal Greenery Authority (ZZM).
History
The Zakrzówek lake was formed when a former limestone quarry was flooded, and it consists of two basins joined by a narrow channel. During the Second World War the site was a working quarry, and under the water lies a granite plaque commemorating Karol Wojtyła, who worked here at that time. The greatest depth is about 32 metres, and the turquoise colour of the water comes from the limestone deposits.
In 2019 the Municipal Greenery Authority began building the public Zakrzówek Park. The park covers more than 50 ha, and together with the neighbouring land about 100 ha of greenery. There are walking and running paths, viewpoints, and places for cyclists and climbers, and in 2023 a bathing area opened with open-mesh pools floating on the surface of the lake.
Did you know?
Back when the lake belonged to divers, a Polski Fiat 125p car, a bus and a van, among other things, lay underwater at depths of 5 to 31 metres. Jerzy Bogajewicz's film "Boże skrawki" was also shot at the lake.
