Painter Dragon
Dragon Trail
The dragon stands on Axentowicz Square, right next to St Stephen's Church.
History
The Painter Dragon has made himself at home on Axentowicza Square. He is looking for a subject for a picture to place in the frame he is holding. The square is named after Teodor Axentowicz (1859-1938), a painter of Armenian descent and rector of the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts. Axentowicz had strong ties to Lviv, promoted Armenian art and worked with Wojciech Kossak and Józef Mehoffer. His monument stands on the square, with a memorial to the prisoners of the death camps next to it.

The models for the dragon sculptures of the Dragon Trail were made in a sculpture studio not far from Axentowicz's own academy.
