The Nowa Huta dragon stands behind the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre.
History
Since December 2025 the Nowa Huta Dragon has stood on the square behind the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre building, known as the NCK Market Square, at Jana Pawła II Avenue 232. It is a bronze cast set on a huge block of limestone and faces the Nowa Huta Meadows, which are protected as an ecological site. The sculpture is the work of Andrzej Zwolak and Jan Tutaj, and the figure is a modern take on the legend of the Wawel Dragon. The little dragon originally stood in front of a printing house on Makuszyńskiego Street, and it came into the care of the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre in 2023.
Did you know?
The bronze figure weighs about 150 kg, and the limestone block it sits on weighs 9.5 tonnes.
