Market-woman Dragon
Dragon Trail
The market-woman dragon stands on Na Stawach Square, by the beginning of the market.
History
The Market Trader Dragoness sits on a little stool with a basket full of goods, wrapped in a shawl, with a scarf on her head. She has her spot on Na Stawach Square, near the well, where she waits for customers. The square takes its name from the Norbertine ponds, where fish were farmed until the 19th century. Later the ponds were filled in, but their memory lives on in the name. Since 1991 it has been one of Kraków's most important market squares: it started out as a small organic bazaar, and today trading goes on here six days a week, whatever the weather.
Did you know?
The city's description refers to a well-known film line of Irena Kwiatkowska, an actress who lived and performed in Kraków for several years after the war: this is a dragoness who is not afraid of any work.
