History
The Dragon in the Company of Animals stands in front of the main entrance to the Kraków Zoo, in the shade of the trees of the Wolski Forest. It was created by Andrzej Mleczko. The dragon has brought some friends from the zoo along with him: a parrot, a snake and a little monkey. He has wrapped the snake around his body and is carrying a bird tired from flying. The zoo has existed in Kraków since 1929, and around 1,400 animals of 260 species live on its almost 17 hectares. The surrounding Wolski Forest covers about 420 ha. The Kraków City Savings Bank bought it in 1917 with the idea of creating a people's park.
Did you know?
According to the city's description, no other zoo has a real dragon among its residents. This one only bares his sharp teeth when he smiles.
