Dzięcioł zielony

Kraków Murals

Mural in the Bieżanów-Prokocim district showing a bird species (Polish name: Dzięcioł zielony). It is one of about a dozen bird murals in this area. A mural is a large painting made directly on the wall of a building.

History

The green woodpecker opened a series of bird murals on the estate of the Na Kozłówce Housing Cooperative. It was painted in 2018 on the gable wall of the building at 2 Na Kozłówce Street, when that wall was being renovated. The artist is the painter Wojciech Rokosz. The series is meant to show the wild birds that live on the estate, and the cooperative paid for the artwork from its other income, without adding to residents' charges. Residents gave the first mural a very warm welcome, so in 2019 seven more paintings appeared.
