Kraków Murals

Mural, Stare Miasto district. Artist: Broken Fingaz Crew. Painted in 2014. A mural is a large painting made directly on the wall of a building.

History

The mural on the house at 3 Bawół Square in Kazimierz was painted in 2014 during the 24th Jewish Culture Festival. It was created by five members of the Israeli collective Broken Fingaz from Haifa, with the concept and execution led by an artist known as Unga. It was inspired by the prints of Maurycy (Ephraim Moses) Lilien, an Art Nouveau artist born in Drohobych, who came to Kraków in 1890 and studied for two years at the School of Fine Arts. The collective, known for its colourful works, made its first black-and-white piece here. The mural is also a tribute to the Bosak family, who lived in this house from the 17th century and left for Israel after the war.

Did you know?

While painting, the artists worked in hoods, did not show their faces and gave no interviews. The collective's name means "broken finger", and a drawing of such a finger appears twice in the mural.
