Fountain in Kraków Park
Kraków Fountains
Fountain, Krowodrza district. Marek Grechuta Kraków Park has been on the register of monuments since 1976. In the 1950s its pond was rebuilt: an island and a fountain appeared on it, and the edge was lined with a low wall. In 2008 the pond and the island were renovated and a new water jet was installed. The park is also an open-air gallery - after renovation it displays nineteen restored sculptures.
History
The park was founded in 1885 by Stanisław Rehman, who leased land in the fortification belt from the army and laid out a public pleasure garden on the Viennese model; it opened in 1887. In the 1950s the pond was rebuilt: an island and a fountain were added, and the bank was lined with stone. In 2008 the pond and island were restored and a new fountain jet was installed, and in 2018, during the revitalisation of the whole park, the fountain was thoroughly renovated. Today the park is named after Marek Grechuta and is an open-air gallery with nineteen restored sculptures.
