Kraska pospolita

Kraków Murals

Mural in the Bieżanów-Prokocim district showing a bird species (Polish name: Kraska pospolita). It is one of about a dozen bird murals in this area. A mural is a large painting made directly on the wall of a building.

History

A colourful roller spreads its wings on the wall of the building at 8 Spółdzielców Street. The mural was painted in 2019 as part of a series of bird paintings on the estate of the Na Kozłówce Housing Cooperative. It is the work of the visual artist Wojciech Rokosz, a graduate of the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts, who painted the whole series. The paintings appear on gable walls during renovations, and the cooperative calls them the estate's trademark. In its view it was the first initiative of this kind in Kraków.

Did you know?

On the same street residents have a bee-eater at number 10, a chaffinch at number 6 and a jay at number 4. The cooperative describes the bee-eater as a rare and mysterious bird.
