Nic dwa razy
Kraków Murals
Mural, Stare Miasto district. The title refers to a poem by Wisława Szymborska, the Nobel Prize-winning poet from Kraków. A mural is a large painting made directly on the wall of a building.
History
The mural "Nic dwa razy" (Nothing Twice) decorates the wall of the house at 28 Karmelicka Street, right next to the Wisława Szymborska Park. It was created in 2023 to mark the 100th anniversary of the poet's birth, through a collaboration between the clothing brand Medicine, the Wisława Szymborska Foundation and the "101 Murals for Kraków" project. The wall was made available by Osti Hotele, the owner of the Hotel Kossak and the Hotel Senacki. The design is by Medicine's graphic designers, Joanna Dobranowska and Piotr Jakób. Its central theme is the 1955 poem, one of the best-known works of the Nobel laureate, and the images refer to its content. The unveiling coincided with the opening of the park next to the building.
Did you know?
The composition is meant to be full of movement, as if capturing a moment that will never return. On the wall a television set is falling, showing the face of Kornel Filipowicz, who was close to the poet. There is also the cat from her most famous collage, shown like a memory or a dream.
