Park type: water. In this park you can collect a stamp in the "Explorer of Kraków's Parks" campaign run by Kraków's Municipal Greenery Authority (ZZM).
History
Płaszów Pond covers about 12 hectares and is one of the largest artificial bodies of water in Kraków. Water filled a former pit from which clay and gravel were extracted for the expansion of the railway junction in Płaszów.
After revitalisation, walking paths were laid out around the pond, trees and shrubs were planted, and viewing and leisure terraces were built by the water. The area is lit, and there are also picnic tables as well as play and fitness equipment.
Did you know?
The pit had to be drained throughout the extraction, because the work went below the groundwater level. When the pumping stopped, the hollow gradually filled up on its own, and that is how today's pond came into being.
