History

Wojciech Bednarski Park, in District XIII on Parkowa and Krzemionki Streets, lies in a hollow left behind by limestone quarrying. It has two parts: an older Neoclassical one and a newer Modernist one. In the middle of the last century there was a large ice rink here, decorated with colourful lanterns, with musicians playing live. More than a hundred species of trees grow here. By the entrance from Parkowa Street stands the Neo-Baroque Gardener's Lodge, and the gloriette is the only building in the park that has kept its original appearance. The restoration was based on archive material. The new pavilion echoes the one from "Twardowski's School" in a photograph from 1903.

Did you know?

Everything on the playground refers to the legend of Master Twardowski: there is a stork's-nest swing, a moon-shaped sandpit and Master Twardowski's rooster.
