Lilla Weneda Park
Explorer of Kraków's Parks · no. 46
Park type: water. In this park you can collect a stamp in the "Explorer of Kraków's Parks" campaign run by Kraków's Municipal Greenery Authority (ZZM).
History
The park lies on what was once the Prokocim Forest. During the Second World War the Germans expanded the Prokocim freight station here, digging the earth for the embankments from a pit. After the Germans withdrew in 1945, the pit flooded, creating a reservoir known as Bagry, and the waterlogged land above Bieżanowska Street became overgrown with trees. By a City Council resolution of 18 January 1995 the forest was given park status and named after Lilla Weneda. The park was opened on 2 October 1999, and building it cost PLN 2 million. A system of five ponds with a total area of 4130 m² was created, and the whole is surrounded by picturesque slopes.
