Explorer of Kraków's Parks · no. 43
Park type: historic. In this park you can collect a stamp in the "Explorer of Kraków's Parks" campaign run by Kraków's Municipal Greenery Authority (ZZM).
History
The park surrounds the Czecz Manor House in Bieżanów. According to the Municipal Greenery Authority, a manor and park complex has existed here since at least the 13th century, and the first mentions of the manor house date from 1470-1480. In 1766 Canon Józef Gorzeński built a parsonage manor house and laid out an Italian garden and an orangery. In 1873 the estate passed to the Czecz family, and the complex was entered in the register of historic monuments in 1990. The park consists of two terraces: the upper one, with the former formal garden, and the lower one, where there were once ponds; today the pitches of the Bieżanowianka club stand there. The grounds are heavily overgrown, and the revitalisation plan provides for planting 133 trees and recreating an avenue of horse chestnuts.
Did you know?
Surviving records show that there was once a vineyard by the manor house, and its walls were covered with Virginia creeper. That is why new climbing plants are included in the revitalisation plan.
