History
The Florian Nowacki Planty is the oldest park in Podgórze. It lies near the spot where the Wilga flows into the Vistula. It was laid out in 1868-1888 on the initiative of Florian Nowacki, mayor of Podgórze and social activist, on the site of a filled-in medieval royal pond.
In the park stands an obelisk from 1898 honouring Maksymilian Siła-Nowicki, a zoologist and professor at the Jagiellonian University, researcher of the fauna and flora of the Tatras and a pioneer of nature conservation in Poland. In 2008 part of the park was redeveloped: a playground and two pitches were built, and trees and shrubs were planted.
