Explorer of Kraków's Parks · no. 59

Park type: standard. In this park you can collect a stamp in the "Explorer of Kraków's Parks" campaign run by Kraków's Municipal Greenery Authority (ZZM). Where to find the stamp: by the fountain.

History

This was once farmland. The park was laid out in the late 1970s and early 1980s as part of the construction of the Mistrzejowice housing estates. It covers more than 10 ha on a site where the lie of the land made building homes impossible, and it makes use of a natural ravine.

At the beginning of the 21st century a wooden amphitheatre was built here, which burned down a few years later; a steel open-air stage was put up afterwards. After the Lesser Poland Air Picnic ended on 28 June 2009, a Cessna 172 aircraft crashed in the park, and in its southern part stands a boulder commemorating the victims of the accident. In 2019-2020 the park was revitalised: the paths and lighting were replaced, the fountain and stage were renovated, and a viewpoint, a skatepark, a sensory path and an outdoor gym were added.

Did you know?

The park lies in a valley, and the difference in height across it reaches almost 31 m. The steepest slopes are tackled by a total of 13 flights of steps and ramps, and the highest point, the sledging hill, stands at 262 m above sea level.
