Słowik szary

Kraków Murals

Mural in the Bieżanów-Prokocim district showing a bird species (Polish name: Słowik szary). It is one of about a dozen bird murals in this area. A mural is a large painting made directly on the wall of a building.

History

The Thrush Nightingale is one of the first murals in a series about the wild birds that live on the Na Kozłówce estate. It was painted in 2018 on the gable wall of the block at 13 Nowosądecka Street by the artist Wojciech Rokosz. The mural was created when the wall was being renovated, and the "Na Kozłówce" Housing Cooperative paid for the artwork out of its other income, without charging residents. The nightingale was the second picture in the series, after the green woodpecker on the building at 2 Na Kozłówce Street. Residents welcomed this way of brightening up the estate so warmly that the cooperative planned more murals for 2019.

Did you know?

In 2019 seven more birds joined the series, among them a stork, a kestrel and a bee-eater.
