Szpak zwyczajny
Kraków Murals
Mural in the Bieżanów-Prokocim district showing a bird species (Polish name: Szpak zwyczajny). It is one of about a dozen bird murals in this area. A mural is a large painting made directly on the wall of a building.
History
The Common Starling is a 2021 mural on the gable wall of the block of flats at Nowosądecka Street 11 on the Na Kozłówce estate. It was painted by the artist Wojciech Rokosz, who created the whole series of birds on the estate. The "Na Kozłówce" Housing Cooperative describes the starling with humour: his eyes are slightly narrowed and he pretends not to be interested in the ladies next door. These are the waxwing and the blue tit on the buildings at Nowosądecka Street 21 and 23, who in turn are being closely watched by the nuthatch at number 25.
Did you know?
By 2025 the cooperative already had 25 bird murals. The cooperative's quarterly claims that no other housing estate in the country has so many murals on a single theme.
