Wróbel domowy

Kraków Murals

Mural in the Bieżanów-Prokocim district showing a bird species (Polish name: Wróbel domowy). It is one of about a dozen bird murals in this area. A mural is a large painting made directly on the wall of a building.

History

Two sparrows have perched on the gable wall of the block at 5 Na Kozłówce Street on the Na Kozłówce estate. The mural was painted in 2020 as another picture in the "Birds" series by the artist Wojciech Rokosz. The birds sit on painted branches, but so naturally that it is hard to tell whether the branches are painted or belong to the trees growing nearby.

Did you know?

Both sparrows are looking curiously to the right. Another nature-themed mural was being painted on the other side of the street at the time. The whole series was making headlines then: a few months earlier it had been shown on the Teleexpres news programme, and the day before the cooperative's post about the sparrows, the murals were on the front page of Onet.
