Zimorodek zwyczajny
Kraków Murals
Mural in the Bieżanów-Prokocim district showing a bird species (Polish name: Zimorodek zwyczajny). It is one of about a dozen bird murals in this area. A mural is a large painting made directly on the wall of a building.
History
The Common Kingfisher is a mural on the gable wall of the block at Na Kozłówce Street 4, painted in 2020. The board of the Na Kozłówce Housing Cooperative commissioned it from Wojciech Rokosz after the firecrest, the duck, the sparrows and nine other birds in the series had won over the residents. No trees hide this wall, so the bird's colourful plumage can be admired in full. The block stands at the entrance to the estate, which is why the cooperative sees the kingfisher as a chance to create a true calling card for the estate.
Did you know?
In summer 2025 another nature-themed mural was unveiled on the estate, this time with flowers. It is 33 metres high and was painted by the same artist who painted the birds. It was paid for by the Zróbmy Sobie Kraków Foundation, not by the cooperative.
