Żołna zwyczajna
Kraków Murals
Mural in the Bieżanów-Prokocim district showing a bird species (Polish name: Żołna zwyczajna). It is one of about a dozen bird murals in this area. A mural is a large painting made directly on the wall of a building.
History
A European bee-eater decorates the gable wall of the block at Spółdzielców Street 10 on the Na Kozłówce estate. The mural was created in 2019 as one of seven paintings added that year to the "Birds" series. It was painted by the visual artist Wojciech Rokosz, author of the whole series. The Na Kozłówce Housing Cooperative writes that the residents of this block can enjoy the rare and mysterious bee-eater. At number 8 on the same street a colourful roller spreads its wings, and at numbers 4 and 6 a jay and a chaffinch have appeared.
Did you know?
In summer 2019 participants in the "Summer in the City" programme, organised by the cooperative's Culture Centre, went on a walk around the estate and got to know the birds painted on the blocks.
