Fountain in the Enchanted Carriage Park

Kraków Fountains

Fountain, Prądnik Czerwony district. A fountain in the shape of a mill wheel stands at the central crossing of the park's paths. It was installed during the modernisation of 2010, commissioned by the District Council of Prądnik Czerwony. A pond referring to the history of the place was created at the same time.

History

The park lies on the site of a former manor farm which from the 15th century belonged to the Dominican order. Around 1604 it was decided to build a mill and fish ponds here, as the Prądnik river flowing nearby made it possible. In 1655, during the Swedish Deluge, most of the farm buildings were burned and the ponds filled in, but the mill was quickly rebuilt. In the 1970s, when the housing estate was being built, the ponds were drained and filled in, and a park was laid out in their place. After a modernisation commissioned in 2010 by the Council of District III Prądnik Czerwony, the park has a pond that recalls the history of the place, and a fountain in the shape of a mill wheel stands where the paths cross.

Did you know?

The park was named Park of the Enchanted Carriage when the neighbouring street was named after Jan Kaczara. In the 19th century the wooden mill was replaced with a brick one, whose building survives to this day.
